New members please follow these steps to join the Comox Valley ATV Club:
- Go to https://atvbc.ca/join-atvbc/ and join our parent organization ATVBC Quad Riders Association of British Columbia. While filling out the application form select Comox Valley ATV Club as your local club. ATVBC manages membership activities for most of the BC clubs.
- Our local Club Membership Directors will be notified whey you sign up and will create an account for you on this website ComoxValleyATVClub.ca. They will send you a welcome email with your Login name and temporary Password to our site along with instructions to complete your application.
- Note that as an ATVBC member you will be entitled to a reduced rate on your ATV/UTV insurance. Remember to show your membership # to ICBC when insuring your vehicle.
- Most of the Island clubs including ours have riding areas that are managed by Mosaic Forest Management so membership in our club requires additional certification, insurance, and a waver beyond that required by ATVBC. This will be outlined in your joining email from us.
- Our Club has a Land Use Agreement with Mosaic that gives us exclusive access to 1,200 sq km of their land for ATV/UTV riding. Even when some areas are open to the general public such as off of the Duncan Bay Logging road you have to be a member of our club in order to legally ride an off road vehicle on Mosaic land.
- Specifically you will need:
- An accredited ATV training course. See below for details.
- Your UTV/ATV to be registered and licensed with ICBC.
- Plus $1 million in private Off Road Liability insurance on your ATV/UTV through your insurance broker or online. e.g. Got Toys https://www.insuretoys.ca/bc/index.html
- Have scans or photos of your proof of ATV training completion and proof of $1 M Off Road Liability insurance to upload in the next step.
- Once you have completed your safety course and have your insurance in place Log In to our website at ComoxValleyATVClub.ca and click on the link “Club Application/Renewal Form” to complete the application process.
- During the application process you will have the option to purchase an Electronic Access card that can be used to access our staging area near Browns River, the Buckley Bay Gates, and other forestry gates in our riding areas if the area is open to us but closed to the public. You can also purchase a FOB for the Oyster River Main at 2 km gate.
- Once your application is submitted and confirmed, our Membership Directors will mail you your vehicle decals and Access Card/FOB if ordered.
- Place the round tow vehicle decal in the lower left inside corner of your tow vehicle windshield and the large square decal in a visible location on your ATV/UTV.
- You are ready to ride. Remember to follow the Responsibilities and Expectations outlined in the agreement you will see on the application form. A copy is also posted for reference on the Website under Members Only.
ATV training course:
You can take a free online ATV training course from the ATV Safety Institute at this website https://cbt.svia.org/login/signup.php. Just create a free account there and take the course. Select Washington as your state and zip code 98001.
Alternatively you can take an accredited one day course in person for a fee at the Whisky Creek training facility. Contact a Membership Director to inquire about in person training offered.
Notes:
There is an interactive Map of our riding areas and a list of parking areas and gate locations that our cards open on the website under the tab Mapping.
Regularly check our Club Website to keep up to date on which riding areas are open each weekend and holiday. Some areas get closed during fire season or for logging.
There are also resources in our forums on the website such as GPS tracks, tutorials, maintenance, safety discussion and lots of other information there.
Join us in our Facebook group “Comox Valley ATV members only” to keep up on all our activities and to communicate with other club members. This is most active place to find out about changes or upcoming group rides and events.
